Mercedes spoke about their impressions of Antonelli.
Mercedes` technical director appreciated the abilities of junior Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who had previously conducted several tests for Mercedes - first at the Red Bull Ring and then at Imola.


I had the pleasure of listening to how other engineers described working with it. He`s a young pilot, full of enthusiasm - and he`s very, very fast.


He has metronomic pace: until recently he had never driven an F1 car, but [during testing] after a lap or two it looked like he had been racing on our site for several years.


He assessed the cars of this generation with an open mind, with a ground effect. . . He feels everything that you would expect from him, but his experience is not distorted by driving previous cars.


He perceives the current cars as they are and tells us how he feels. Talks about weaknesses and strengths, allows engineers to work on some improvements. Looks like a promising young pilot, says Ellison.
