A group of priests have sent a letter to the Archbishop of Naples, Crescenzo Sepe, asking him to speak out against the renaming of the local stadium from San Paolo to Diego Armando Maradona, Il Matino writes. As is known, the mayor of the city Luigi De Magistris announced that in the coming days the facility will be renamed in memory of the deceased football legend. However, the priests in question do not want the name of St. Paul to be removed from the name of the stadium, simply proposing that Maradona be added to it.

The stadium of Sao Paulo should be named after the saint who brought us Jesus. With modesty, we feel a responsibility to tell you. We all agree on one thing: we don`t want a whole new name. It would be good to call the stadium San Paolo - Maradona, as in Milan is the San Siro - Meazza. This would be the right compromise to keep the faith and honor the champion, reads the letter, signed by Don Salvatore Giuliano, Don Luigi Merola, Don Carmine Amore, Don Lelo Ponticelli and Don Armando Sanino.
