The President of the Real Madrid Real Madrid Florentino Perez has proposed the creation of a European Super League, according to the New York Times. Perez`s idea is to compete with the richest clubs in the five leading continents of the continent - England, Spain, France, Germany and Italy.
The Super League will be split into two divisions of 20 teams and will be played on a rotation away throughout the season, and participating clubs will not play in their national championships or Euro tournaments. After the end of each season there will be a promotion to the elite division for the best of the second level, but not relegated from the second tier.
Perez believes participating in the new Super League will nearly double the team`s revenue in a year. He has already discussed his idea with some of Europe`s top club executives, as well as with FIFA President Canni Infantino.
However, this proposal is expected to face strong resistance from national federations as the level of club championships will decline dramatically. UEFA will certainly be in serious opposition as the absence of leading clubs advised by dropping odds will drastically reduce the interest in the Champions League, which generates serious revenue for the Euro Central.
